Serving Those Who Serve: Honoring Our First Responders This May

At DTE, the nature of our job means we are often working right alongside local police, fire, and EMS teams. Whether it is a recovery on the side of a busy highway or a late-night scene, we see the dedication and hard work of these professionals firsthand.

While our role is to handle the logistics of the vehicles involved, they focus on the immediate safety and medical needs of our neighbors. We work in coordination with them to clear debris and tow damaged cars so that the roadway can be reopened and emergency crews can return to their stations safely. It is a partnership built on mutual respect for the work that happens on the pavement every day.

A Month Of Gratitude
The commitment to public safety is a massive effort, with an estimated 4.6 million first responders serving across the country. To honor that dedication, various organizations and congressional resolutions recognize May as a time to celebrate these men and women. This month is about acknowledging the people who are ready to respond at a moment’s notice, often in the most challenging conditions.

Throughout the month, there are several specific dates that allow us to highlight different branches of service:
● International Firefighters’ Day (May 4): A day to recognize the sacrifices made by firefighters to ensure their communities are safe.

● National Police Week (May 11-17): A time to honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and to thank those who continue to serve.

● National EMS Week (May 17-23): A week dedicated to the paramedics, EMTs, and the entire EMS team providing critical care.
